Unfortunately, evolutionary theory is no better than statistical analysis at determining the cause(s) of mass shootings...
Personally, I think it's a waste of time and energy to search for a cause, and blaming video games or movies is just silly.
When Charles Whitman shot 43 people at the University of Texas, "first-person shooter" video games did not even exist, and movies did not have the graphic violence seen in films today.
