Hogs are a huge problem. There is, or at least used to be and operation out of Bardwell Texas that hunts hogs out of a helicopter. They hunt during the winter when the foliage is off the trees so they can run them out of the creek bottoms into the open and into the fields to get clean shots. They need a minimum of ???? lots of land to hunt on perhaps 1500 acres or more so land owners get together and form a group to pay them to hunt an area. I have heard (and this is hearsay) that it is $1600/hr to hunt with them so it is pretty pricy to go up. They had a hunting program at one time on TV.
The farmers and ranchers around that area had a huge problem with them and the darned things could do a lot of damage to crops. I have seen water lines and phone lines rooted up by them. They are largely nocturnal but not entirely. They will feed anytime the weather is right. We moved from there and have hog problems here as well. Heck they're all over the state pretty much except west Texas. Too Damned Hot and Dry.
That's one of the reasons why I'm building my Grendel. The things rooted up my front yard and my back yard a couple of years ago. We haven't had any for a couple of years but we have Gophers now. A friend told me they were after the grub worms. Could be truth to that.
