BjornF16 and Pancho: While most 16" and shorter barrels use the carbine length gas system, the AA 16" Spartan uses a mid-length gas system.

Per AA's web page:

16" 6.5 Grendel Cut Rifled Barrel & Bolt
Precision contoured and cut rifled 16" 6.5 Grendel Spartan barrel comes with complete bolt. Fluted barrel.
Mid length gas port is drilled and has 1:8 twist. .750 at the gas block. Weighs in at 1.1 pounds.
