You’d think in Texas out of a possible 3000 customers someone would be packing. Only military and LE really train to go towards the sounds of battle. There are training classes for civilians but by and large I predict a very high percentage of CCL carriers would try to leave the area, hunker down and protect their families and themselves. Since retiring I’m not sure how I would’ve reacted had I had my grand kids with me. My first instinct would be to protect my grand kids and if the aggressor got close to us I would engage.
I have always carried concealed since 1976 and fortunately I’ve had to yet fire my weapon. There were a couple of times I drew my weapon. Your physical condition, age and circumstances need to be considered in any self defense encounter. We are naive to think it can’t happen in our community or to one of us. We must strive to be alert, prepared and hope it doesn’t happen to us.
