I found that the 18" barrel seems to be well balanced with the caliber and in most cases will shoot exceptionally well. For a weapon of given weight the barrel seems to trade weight against accuracy well.
As we have progressed with the Grendel barrels we have observed that the general weight of barrel we have been using is rather heavy. Unless the weight is required for stability on the bags or bipod a lighter barrel may serve much better. This has been slowly proven over a series of years and for 2012 we have re-profiled our entire Grendel fleet. Fluting seems to work well which may be due to the low operational pressures involved.
