c. I think you place far too much importance on the Electoral College. There have been 57 elections, and in 91% of them the winner got the majority of the popular vote. In any case, if "once conservative western states are now turning leftist," it won't matter if the Electoral College is eliminated, because the vote of each State's electors is determined by the popular vote in each State, which will have become leftist.
IMO, the loss of "rights" is inevitable.
