Stuck the Grendel action back in the Predator stock and have been monkeying around with bending the feed lips on an ASC and E-Lander mag. The E-Lander metal is much thicker and way more malleable than the ASC or C Products mags. The ASC mag seems to be working much better, I still wouldn’t call it “fixed” but, it’s much improved. Just when I think I have, the E-lander tuned in, it starts to balk again.
I don’t know, how you work the bolt definitely affects the outcome. Get in a rhythm and it seems ok, take a break, and try it again and it’s like has a mind of its own.
Turns out it’s not so much the feed ramp as I initially thought either. The rounds are just short enough that when the rear end clears the feed lips, if it’s pushed up a little too hard by the mag spring, and/or the nose is not quite high enough, the tip of the bullet misses the chamber and it gets jammed into the back of the barrel. Then it’s game over, until you back off the bolt and start shaking the gun, trying to align and feed the tip into the chamber.
It’s all a balancing act and split second timing to pull it off.
