OK, I may be on track, or at least a lot closer. I got a new gas screw from the hardware store, the front ‘set screw’ is undamaged and reusable.
I 1st tried it with the gas adjustment screw about 2 complete turns out, from bottomed out. My stronger reloads cycled fine. I tried in about 1/2 a turn, they ejected but the bolt didn’t lock back with the magazine. I backed the screw back near where it was, in the ballpark of two complete turns out. The fuller power reloads cycled fine with magazine lockback.
I tested a few Hornady factory rounds, same basic ejection with lockback.
My weaker reloads with IMR-4198 cycled but no bolt lockback, I left it be since I’ll go with my stronger TAC loads for now.
Thanks for the help gentlemen. I will continue to evaluate but much better than when starting off. I’d think there may be some break-in issues also that may help.
