Just on that: I don't agree that is the reason. The reason is cultural. Many vets who pick up ARs in civilian life do so with the rifle they know. Secondly, more importantly IMO, is that the military adoption of the 5.56/223 means that it become culturated for us to use it. Tons of manufacturers, many seeking various contracts with the military, etc push the "M-16" into the minds of the public. If, say, the Military adopted the 6.5 Gr then it would be a different game. I think we all realize that. The number of smaller and larger manufactures would blossom and the 6.5 would become common, every common.
