Well now that changing uppers seems to have fixed your problem, it would be useful to find out exactly what was causing the problem in the other upper assembly's. Yes, I know you don't have them anymore.
I thought that my problem with bullet movement was solved, I was wrong, bullets are still moving .002 regardless of bullet weight. Much less, but still moving. Reading around, it seems that this is more wide spread than was thought, as you pointed out before.
I did check my 5.56 AR's and they don't show any problem. I am also going to try a different brand of cases.
Another thing, I have been checking with one round in the mag and releasing the carrier using the release lever, I need to load a full mag and see what happens. Might slow down the carrier speed enough to cure the problem.
