Most of these we never hear about because they occur as local news only.
DNS is on to something here. I spend a fair amount of time over at Dr. John Lott's website for the Crime Prevention Research Center. Usually, Dr. Lott's focus is on mass public shootings. He defines this as mass shootings (4 victims or more) in a public place not related to any other crime. Gang, drug and family violence usually don't fit the definition.
