Good Morning BjornF16: I just spread a thin layer on the barrel extension and the inside of the upper receiver where the barrel extension slides in and then wipe off the excess that comes out because the fit should be pretty tight anyways and some will be forced out.
Loctite is made to harden with the lack of oxygen so if you don't wipe off the excess it can become a mess.
Any color loctite can plug the gas block if put on before assembly and if you don't leave an area clear for the gas block to slide over without loctite there.
So if you put it completely around the area the gas block will end up at some of the Loctite can be forced over the top of the gas port and block it.
That's why I mentioned the horseshoe shape of the Loctite around the gas port with the open end of the horseshoe shape toward the muzzle of the barrel and the horseshoe shaped layer of Loctite going around the gas port.
The rest of the gas block mounting area I smear a thin layer of Loctite all over it like the barrel extention.
