If the AWB WORKED, then it would have prevented it. If the AWB FAILED, then we saw what we saw, and it's now history in the record books.

Unfortunately, although "we saw what we saw," you are failing to realize one very critical fact: Except for a few named guns, the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban did not ban assault weapons; it banned certain cosmetic features.

AR15, FAL, and AK variants remained legal to manufacture, buy, and possess, provided they did not incorporate any of the banned features. And all assault weapons legally possessed prior to 1994, remained legal to possess.
