Random thoughts:
- There are natural rights, like self defense, and government given rights, like killing babies. I need a defensive rifle because the government has not eliminated (simply outlawing doesn't work) bad things from happening to me that a defensive rifle can help me solve.
- A 17 year old male is in the Unorganized Militia (10 USC 246) and, if called to duty, must appear with a weapon of his own procurement (U.S. v. Miller, 307 U.S. 174 (1939)), not one his mommy bought for him.
- I have seen arguments (I believe by the SCOTUS, and I am not saying it is right) that indicate the arms referred to would be what an individual would use, so RPGs, manpads, and mortars should be included.
- If we were meant to be able to protect ourselves from the government, see above.
- Don't fight the last war, get a laser.
