If you are going to be hunting, you may want to go with lower magnification. At too high a magnification, you can't efficiently track your prey with your scope. You end up turning it down to one of it's lower magnifications. 3-9 power would work fine for that. If using it around 100 yards, iron sights or a red dot sight would be just fine.
If you are going to be doing long range shooting. Something over 300 yards or so, then you may want to get a higher power scope. It's all about what you are going to be using it for.
4.5-14 is a good middle ground scope. You can get low enough to hunt and high enough to focus on longer distances.
