For feel, I really like the Magpul MOE hand guard.

While not a free float affair, they are very comfortable, transfer little heat and are affordable. I think what I most like about it is how it reminds me of how comfortable the original A1 hand guard was. The wider bottom lays naturally in the palm, and also provides what I consider to be a more stable contact point, when laying it on sand bags or other rests.
For a solid, bi-pod mounted, lightweight, free floated unit, I find myself very happy with the >gasp< AR-Stoner M-Lock hand guard being offered by MidwayUSA.

These are proving to be a very solid and accurate addition to my bench riders. (I now have two.) The barrel nut requires no special tools to mount, as it only needs an open end wrench or spanner.
ETA: If I'd known LRRPF52 was going to turn it into a space-aged beauty contest, I would have at least posted the Krylon lipstick versions. Then again, he DID just get back from SHOT.
