In my experience even with baking there is still no substitute for time. Pieces that I had baked at 200° for an hour were much dryer and harder than air dryed for a few days, but still were susceptible to the kind of scratching that it would resist after waiting for several weeks.

How do you support the piece in the oven? I have to imagine that it would be best to keep as much of the painted surfaces from bearing weight as possible.
