So, I got an unknown upper as a trade, was told it was Aero Precision, but other than the Anchor Harvey forge mark, and the barrel markings I don't know anything else about it. It's never been fired, has a type 2 bolt, and carbine gas, but that's it. Got a simple lower to put it on, and that's about it. The plan is for this to be a lightweight hunting and everything else rifle.
Have been reading a lot, and have seen the recommendation for heavier buffers adjustable gas blocks etc. One question I have is, should I avoid firing it in its current configuration, since that would likely be a bit hard on components?
It seems an adjustable gas block is the best plan, but will a heavy buffer suffice for a while?
And furthermore I know some of the answers will be "shoot it and find out" please understand I am trying to be patient and do this in a thought out manner.
