For what you are doing i would get a short barrel or 16 at the longest. Faxon and BA i believe have 12-12.5 barrels offered right now. For a 16 the alexander arms upper kit with the gas block, gas tube, assembled upper, CH and barrel for 300 is a pretty good deal to me.
I have a 16 AA and a 10.5 anderson barrel that i had chopped. Cant figure out which one i like shooting more. The 16 is sub moa all day with sst and the 10.5 is plenty good enough (6) at 100yds using steel cased wolf and irons only. The 10.5 is probably more accurate but my front post is tritium so its fatter than standard and covers the target completely.
Not trying to completely change your mind but if i was to have an unweildy rifle id rather do it in a different platform. The whole reason i went grendel was to get a good performance out of the handy little AR15. Otherwise i would have stayed with my m1a.
