LR55 and the rest are on the money, there are very few places you can shoot 1000 yds competitively, and there are any number of cartridges that will outperform the grendel. For the money, if you are going to shoot 1000 yds, you would be much better off with a 6 mm BR or PPC in a bolt gun.
If you are looking for an effective hunting cartridge out to 500 yds with a quick follow-up if needed, then the Grendel is a good fit. I am in North Texas and have access to several thousand acres of property to hunt on, and there are very few places that a 1000 yd shot are possible. 500 yds can be an every day occurance.
