@wheelguner & jdelong - thanks for the tip on the Wolf upper at AIM! I convinced my brother to buy one and it just arrived last night. The charging handle was sheared in two during shipping, but everything else looks good. He emailed and is waiting for response from AIM.
Drew, that Grendel I is a different animal, compound throat but with a 0.295" neck.
