I'm working on a few projects that will smash everything into a 5.5-7lb carbine, with no external profile differences than the original guns from the early 1960's. When you put an original Colt carbine into your hands, you immediately say, "Oh, there you are..."
It's also a necessity for a home defense gun to have a high-power light on it for work in and around the house in the times when burglaries are most likely, but it sucks to have rails, clamps, pressure switches, cables, and other catch-me, spank-me doo-dads protruding from the fighting tool. Technology has matured to the point that both are possible, in my opinion...lightweight, low-profile, 21st Century capable.
