Remarkable! It seems like there are similar concerns as in a hostage situation, not shooting the bystanders to get at the threat, rules of engagement.
Any bounty for hogs?

I had never thought of it like that, but I see what you mean. Safety is always important. Different folks have different ideas on what they consider to be safe. Some folks I know would never shoot around cattle at all with a variety of reasons for justification, which are not invalid. I don't have a problem with shooting at hogs beyond the cattle or to the side of cattle, but I don't want cattle beyond the hogs. I prefer to not see any cattle in my FOV when I am pulling the trigger, but that isn't always possible.

Had we been team shooting, it would probably have been a "one shot and one shot only" situation where each shooter picks a different target in a safe direction of fire and each shoot at the same time and then see how the situation pans out. After the shot, we would reassess to see if the hogs deconflict from the cattle or not (sorry, reading about air traffic control issues) and the person in charge makes the call. "One shot and one shot only" shooting situations are done in situations where there are narrow safe field(s) of fire such that shots that deviate from the opening salvo might be problematic. So regardless of whether your hog runs off or not, you don't pull the trigger a second time until the person in charge makes the call.

Most of my landowners have themselves shot at coyotes or hogs in and around cattle and understand what is involved and the necessity of the situation. It is like one said to me. He said it was like shooting a single doe from a group of deer when you have only one tag left and the game warden is your hunting partner. You can only legally hit one. If you hit more than one, you get into trouble. So you pick your shot carefully.
