I have been shooting for over 60 years now, and for the first 10-12 did not know much about cleaning and lube.
Just lube it, I use Mobile 1 leftovers from bottles used on my cars and lawn equipment.
CLP is an old standby, it's what the military supplies. Then shoot it, take it home and clean it.
I do not follow any special "break in procedures".
