You could also do:

AA barrel: $195
AA bolt: $93.50
GunTec Handguard: $90
JSE Surplus M4 Upper: $75
PSA Premium BCG: $90 (you will have an extra 5.56 bolt)
Charge Handle: $12
Gas block: $25
Gas tube: $12
Flash hider with washer: $16.50

Now you start to see why that complete upper price is hard to beat, with all the work done for you.
