Um, perhaps I'm not remembering correctly, but I don't recall the anti-gun crowd ever saying that madmen or Islamic radicals are not a threat.

Another example is the complete ban of firearms in federal prison. Firearm deaths is a non issue to inmates because of this ban resulting in a safe rehabilitating environment.
