Yes, in Europe, you have to ask permission and get approval for each and every individual purchase from your local police, and you are never allowed to use a firearm in a defensive role. They can only be transported to and from the range, or hunting area...no exceptions. They also only put murderers and rapists away for a few years, then release them. Getting a machinegun collector's license is as easy as filing a collection plan with the local police, showing you are a member of a shooting club in good standing for x amount of years, and waiting approval. No US pre-86 issues there either, so prices are very reasonable for machineguns. I'm speaking mostly about Finland, but the laws are changing.
