The OP never stipulated that this was a foreign war or that you're the US Military. Nor did he stipulate whether you're equipping yourself, your unit, or the entire fighting force.

This may very well be a SHTF were the best suited pales in importance of common (read readily accessible) ammunition.

If your squad is using multiple small arms calibers that's a problem, a big problem.
