Unfortunately Eisenhower, the man who followed him to the Presidency, made one of the worst decisions. On Oct 4, 1957 the Russians launched Sputnik, Eisenhower became convinced that America was falling behind in the space race because we weren't teaching "the Theory of Evolution" in schools, and our children weren't interested in math and science. In 1958 he asked Congress for a billion dollars to teach "the Theory of Evolution" in American schools and got it.
