One thing that I have noticed about Stan over the years is that if there are any loose ends in your argument or reasoning, he's going to see them right away and bring them into the light.
He makes for a very good civil debating partner/"opponent", if you will, especially when it comes to the technical side of things.
If you're looking for another torch-bearer who will immediately grab your argument and run with it, he's going to disappoint you.
If you're prepared for some insightful perspective that might not be what you want to hear, then Stan's the type who can throw cold water on your fire before you get it going, with clearly-worded reasons why he disagrees.
I'm not saying I agree with him blindly, but he has been a good sounding board for ideas if you want dispassionate reasoning.
