Grendel as a Universal Infantry Cartridge

So any chance that we will ever see a 6.5mm replace the 5.56 and 7.62?

Service wide, no way. There are too many applications where 7.62 works just fine.

In the infantry squad, possibly. The odds seem pretty much nil for it being 6.5 Grendel, but the LSAT folks are reportedly now developing 6.5 cased-telescoped ammo and a carbine to fire it.

A 6.5 CTA machine gun is also said to be planned for future development. However, priority has been given to creating a 7.62 LMG, which makes me think that the Army may be reluctant to drop to 6.5mm for machine guns.
