Here in NY, the SAFE Act has been a total success. Since it's passage, we have not had any mass shootings involving the newly defined assault weapons. No one has been shot more than 10 times as that is all you're allowed to have in a magazine. The number of newly defined assault weapons has been greatly reduced in this state. At the time of it's passage, there were an estimated 1,000,000 such weapons in the state. Anyone with one of these now more dangerous weapons had one year to sell out of state or register it with the state police. Approximately 44,000 were registered. That's about 4% of those thought to exist. To me that means 96% of these dangerous guns were transferred out of state. That makes me feel SAFEr. Connecticut had similar results with their law.
