I read at the Website Kit Up!, which I think is a subsidiary of Military.com, that the Russians are continuing to search for an AK replacement.
"Meanwhile, the Russian Izhmash company is working on a modernized replacement for the Kalashnikov series of rifles. . . . An additional 500 meters means that they are definitely looking at a caliber other than 7.62×39 and probably not 5.45×39 either."

So, let me get this straight:
1. Looking for more range.
2. Not 7.62.
3. Not 5.45.
4. The Russians use what works, not what's the popular flavor of the month in the American tacti-cool scene. Anyone wanna bet they end up with something that looks remarkably similar to a 6.5 Grendel?
