Hi Charles: The Grendel upper takes a standard BCG but I would make sure it's a M-16 version versus an AR-15 version as the AR-15 BCG's are lightened.
Using the M-16 version improves the dwell time and seems to lessen the incidents of problems. The AR's were originally designed with the M-16 version of BCG even in 5.56/.223.
Once you have the complete BCG you just change out the bolt that is headspaced to the barrel.
There are different versions of the M-16 BCG's( regular,chromed, Nickel Boron coated,etc.) but most people just use the regular standard BCG because they are cheaper unless they are going full auto or extremely high use.
