As long as your barrel is cut by someone competent, who can cut square and true threads to the bore, with the threads concentric to the bore, using TBAC's relief cut, you should be golden. A shorter barrel will balance out better with the can as well. What length are you thinking about?
If you look closely at the barrel, you can see where there is a slight color change. This is as far as the brake came back on the barrel. There is nothing for it to butt up against and be timed. The only thing holding the brake in place was the single set screw on the underside of the brake. Finger tight would be a stretch describing how the brake was on.
As for shortening the barrel, I really hate to take off any more than need be to do the work. This barrel is a tack driver understanding that shortening the barrel realistically should only cost me a little velocity and not change accuracy but damn, when something works right, it's better left alone. My smith is very competent. Only let one person do machine work for me at the present time. Just hoping he can get to this one pretty quick. Hate having a weapon down. Especially for something as trivial as this.
