My vote is on 300 BLK 8" suppressed with 125 gr TNT's. That is a nasty bullet of the 300 BLK and can be driven close to 2100 fps even out of an 8" barrel with Lil gun.

Thanks man. Jayne (yes, after Jayne from "Firefly"LOL) was by far the best dog I've ever owned. He was my best friend. I had to put him down when he got wobblers. Sucks even more, I couldn't even clone a dog (money not-withsatanding) with wobblers. I'm not the kind of person to spend crazy money on animals, but I'd pay a very princely sum to have him back, even if it was just a carbon copy.

I hear you, science needs to get going on extending the life of dogs. Their short lives is the only negative part of these great animals. I cried like a baby when I had to put my best friend down. It can be rough.

I imagine most folks love the grendel in general they just figure for home defense over-penetration would be a problem without varmint-grenade-type pills. Most folks have pills that would work that way in 5.56 or 5.7x28 but not so much in 6.5. : shrug : Just a guess.

Keltec Ksg 12 ga with a cheapie surefire light/vvtac combo. Honestly the dogs are a very good option. If you don't have something they specifically really want most bad guys will skip a house with a large dog. As soon as I get my yard fenced and a few things set up I think a dobie is in my future.

Rifle caliber is subjective.... especially if it is a rifled shotgun barrel. If you are saying that just because of the diameter of the round, well larger diameter has been used effectively in the past:

actually a rifle is a poor choice for home defence unless in a actual war i suppose. i chose other as its obvious that a 12 gauge pump shotgun is the very best home defence especially with all the pistol grip, short barrel and ammunition choices that are at hand. i only say pump as it will almost always work. my saiga has been mad eto be a non failing shotgun as well and i know i can count on it to deliver lead quite efficently, and in a humane mannor,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Buckshot will still penetrate walls; birdshot not effective; 12 ga recoil significantly higher than 5.56/Grendel/300 BLK; you still have to aim with shotgun; 18" shotgun barrel still somewhat more unwieldily than 16" AR-15, etc.
