First outing for 15" Grendell T/C Contender pistol

Well I finally got to shoot a little today between having to do other things. 50 deg and 10-15mph quartering winds. The barrel is from Match Grade Machine, and the fit and finish on it are very nice. Had it done with a 1in8 twist.

I did one comparison of the factory 123gr SST with a handloaded 123gr SST seated out to .010 off the lands, 26.5gr IMR 8208XBR it was just a guess as a starting point.
It didn't do too bad I don't think, just need to try up and down a little and I think I will have it.

That's awesome. I've always loved T/C's for some reason. Some forum members have hunted successfully with them, and there's a picture on the Contents page in Volume II of the 6.5 Grendel Reloading Handbook of one with his trophy Audad.

Cool. How did you go about finding out where the lands were on a T/C? I know how on a bolt and semi auto but not my Encore.

I just used a case gauge setup like I always do, just have to take the barrel off the frame so the extractor is all the way down.

Got back out today, the hand loaded 123 SST are choreographing at 2230 to 2248 fps today in 73 deg temps. Still getting 1" to 1.5" groups at 100 yards right now. I hope to get the groups smaller with break in and load work. Shot some 120 Game kings at 2190 to 2220 fps and they went into 2" at 100 yards, 129 interbonds at 2080 to 2100 fps went into 1.5" at 100 yards. I am really pleased so far with the pistol barrel, only thing I haven't got to shoot worth anything is 120gr SMK, they were 4" for 5 shots at 100 yards.

Always loved the contender. My dad has the 357 Harret, 223, 30-30 and 45-70 barrel. Been inching to shoot the 45-70 barrel again, but I will not be shooting for groups with that one. May have to look into a Grendel barrel.
