Help with gas tube?

I have a Seekins adjustable gas block. The gas tube will go in 3/4 of the way from the wrong end and 1/4 of the way from the correct end. The end of the tube appears to be hanging up on the hole that lines up with the gas port in the barrel. Should I just force it? I've taken the adjustment screw completely out, it's not the obstruction. I'm thinking there must be a small burr left from machining, but nothing is visible.

Stick a q-tip in the gas tube hole and pull it out. If there are any burrs, the cotton should catch on it.

No cotton pulled off the swab. Maybe not a burr, but a bulge? If it went the same depth from both ends I would say it's the tube, but it doesn't. I guess I could "polish" the tube slightly. Tube is cheaper than the gas block to replace.

I put the gas tube in the freezer for about 5 minutes and it almost made it all the way in. I'll leave it in a little longer this time. Almost there.

If that doesn't work, you can polish the outside of the tube where it inserts. Do you have a gas tube wrench by any chance?

No I don't have a gas tube wrench, never heard of one. I did let it soak and little longer in the freezer and it slid right in. Now I'm soaking the gas tube retention pin. Looks like it's going to be a pain also. Any secrets to installing it. I thought about a C-clamp, but I doubt if it would work, also don't want to mar up the finish.

No luck on the gas tube retaining pin. I did a google search and found a thread where a guy lost his. He asked for the size of the pin and someone responded .081" diameter X length. No wonder, I have 2 pins one is .084" and the other .085".

The way to install the is make a tool. I have one that looks like a punch, with a hole in the end to place the pin in. This is used to get it started. The punch holds the pin then hammer on the other end to get it started.

Thanks, I was thinking I've got some 1/4" brass rod. Cut off 3-4 inches and drill a hole in the end. Maybe a slight taper on the leading edge of the roll pin.

A dab of grease or vaseline can often hold the pin in the hole sufficiently to help get it started with a punch.

I always end up chamfering the end of my gas tube roll pins. I do the same thing with trigger guard roll pins, and bolt catch roll pins.

FWIW: For those type pins in a lpk I use my channel locks with the teeth wrapped in electrical tape. I haven't assembled an upper in a while and never tried this with the roll pin. However, I intend to with the lilja barrels if possible.

I just got one of these but haven't tried it yet. Have never tried to install a gas tube roll pin until this Grendel project so don't know what the best way is.

+1 on the starter punch. Better than an extra set of hands. Roll pin punches are a close second.

I use one of the heads in a security Torx set, or a security hex set to hold roll pins.

Security sets cost very little and you can use them like normal Torx and Hex sets. They just come with a shallow hole in the middle.

I thought I would check the forum before heading out into the garage to turn a brass or steel (W-1) roll pin holder.

Klem's idea of the torx head and Drifter's suggestion of a little grease to hold it should work perfectly. I'll chamfer the edge by chucking it up in my flex shaft grinder and some sand paper.

I get a little bit larger drill and make few twist in the hole by hand.

I use an india stone to bevel the pin also.

Put the GB in a vise so it doesn't move around and tap pin in using needle nose pliers.

It goes in easy.

Finish with a punch once the pin gets close to edge.

I put a dot on tube to see if it's rotating while the pin is being tapped in.

If it rotates the pin will hang up and possibly damage the tube.

I have used numerous different manufactures gas blocks with the provided roll pins and some are ok and others suck. The holes are differnet sizes due to coating and some are steel roll pins that can rust. Atleast use SS roll pins.

The SS Coil Roll pins are the best and easier in and out, these are the same style Troy uses on there trigger guards. I use them on all 3 places they are regularly needed, Gas Block, Trigger Guard and Bolt Catch.
