Can anyone recommend a gunsmith to do a CZ527 Carbine conversion from 7.62x39 to 6.5 Grendel resulting in a ½ moa rifle?
I spoke with CZ's custom shop for rifles and, though they have done several such conversions, I got the impression that a 1 to 2 moa rifle meets their standards.
After going back and forth on the pros and cons of the project, my oldest enthusiastically agreed this would make a superb birthday present for my youngestbrotherly (and fatherly) love :-)

Most factories are happy with 1MOA rifles, so it doesn't surprise me that CZ says that. If you read the gun rags, they seldom shoot a factory rifle that averages less than 1MOA.

Interesting, because my CZ527, in .223, shoots about 1 MOA, while my CZ550 in .308 can put five in one ragged hole @ 100 yds. Of course, I bedded the receiver, and free-floated the bull barrel to get it there, but it wasn't a significant investment.
I think the 527 has the potential to do the same, but I already have a couple of .223's that can shoot sub 1/2 inch groups.
If you don't already have the CZ, take a good look at the Savage. My Model 16 in the 20 Grendel turns in groups that suggest 1/2 MOA is possible, and you do not want to know the "Gunsmithing" techniques used to make the conversion. (No, I did not use a pipe-wrench, but the methods were close to that!!!)
The Accutrigger and Accustock seem to work well. A quality scope makes a difference too.
As you know BjornF16 likes his Grendel Scout ( http://www.65grendel.com/forum/showthrea...el-project).

The plan is to also upgrade to the varmint stock—or an after-market stock if I find the right one (adjustable cheekpiece would be nice).

Finally found a local one and picked it up minutes ago. Because this is a birthday gift for my youngest, I wanted the lightest action consistent with quality. After looking at short action and falling block action options, I settled on this... after over-thinking it for quite some time.

Manners stocks are really nice. I've just ordered two of them for my next bolt accurizing projects (1 x Savage .308 Win; 1 x R700 7mm Rem Mag). I ordered the Elite Hunter stocks (1 x EH3, 1 x EH4).
They should be able to inlet for the CZ action

While I know that nukes has already snagged his youngest's CZ, I have to agree with you. My savage hog hunter M11, while a bit plain looking, has far exceeded my expectations. Without doing anything to it, except for a camo paint job, it is putting 1/2 inch groups together all day long. Smaller, if I regulate caffeine intake. This has the accutrigger, but a basic synthetic stock. Terrific performance, for a gun out of the box, and very small capital investment.
My friend had CZ's Custom Shop convert his CZ527 using a Douglas Premium grade barrel, finished to 22". He said the 139gr Scenar was shooting into .25" for him at 100yds. He was an SF Sniper Instructor for many years of his career, and is big into reloading.

Has anyone done a build from the SAOD barrel and stock combo?

I called Manners last year and they said they had nothing for the CZ527. I was hoping for their Ultralight Hunter stock. Have you heard of anything new such that I should call them again?

When I spoke with the head gunsmith, he said they used Rock barrels and when I asked about others (specifically a 20" Krieger 5R 1-8.5", same as on our AR), he completely dismissed the idea. "The rifle and cartridge are not worth it," was his response. Quite a thing to say for a man who, though an independent contractor, has a vested interest in the CZ reputation. I did not get the impression that he gave a hoot. Maybe he was just having a bad day and I should ask again.
If he has been enthusiastic, I would have done this last Spring. ¼ moa—I am onboard for that!
I approached CZ at their booth at SHOT, and they seemed very negative towards the 6.5 Grendel, while mentioning plans to do a 6.8 SPC instead. I looked at them like they had caught the plague.
* European...check
* Top firearms name in history for design and production....check
* Already have a micro action with a 7.62x39 bolt head.....check
* Brass made in at least 2 of the biggest names in ammunition in Europe....check
* Same brass & ammp plus Hornady available in the US even more.....check
* Grendel has one SAAMI spec....check
Let's do another caliber, with less performance capability, in a non-Euro bore diameter, with a different bolt head spec, that has two different chamber specs, the first being a major SNAFU with SAAMI. Makes sense, right? All the while, our customers are asking for a 6.5 Grendel micro-action that has one standard SAAMI spec, that would make a great all-round lightweight hunting rifle.
I can't tell them how to run their business. If the rifle and cartridge are not worth it, why did they ever chamber in 7.62x39? .222 Remington?
Does it make better business sense to make a .221 Fireball, a .223 Rem, a .222 Rem, and a 7.62x39, but not a Grendel?

Their online stock builder doesn't list CZ527 but has an option for "Other". Otherwise, HS Precision should be able to inlet for CZ.

HS Precision should be out of business. Its only because Americans have such a short memory that they aren't.
When you use a sniper responsible for the murder of a woman holding a baby as a spokesman for your company, you don't deserve any business from anyone who loves liberty.

You're right...I forgot. Is he still employed there?
And the other feller is at Troy Industries?

There was a huge outcry and HS did some ambiguous hemming and hawing. The next year the Horiuchi endorsement did not appear in the HS catalog.
Years back I met Randy and his surviving family at SOF. I'd use a soup ladle to whittle a stock out of saltwater driftwood before I'd give a cent to HS.

Agree 100%. Closely parallel logic applies to the E. Arthur Brown Co. that chambers their falling block action for obscurities, but snubs the 6.5 Grendel.
