After Kelly's remarks, I wondered why he wasn't arrested for a straw purchase. Looks like Diamondback might actually be saving him.

It's a shame what happened to Giffords, no one will deny that. That being said, the sole person who was responsible is IN JAIL. The idea that he is on a crusade against the tool that Laughner used shows his stupidity. I'm glad that the store owner denied him the purchase publicly. It's nice to see that some people still have a clue.

He's only a retired Naval Aviator and Astronaut. He obviously isn't smart enough to purchase the firearm, magazine and appropriate ammo that was used on his wife in order to push his agenda.

I am by no means an insensitive prick with regards to victims of (gun) violence but he and his wife need to focus on more important things. I heard someone on the radio refer to Gabby as the new "Favorite Vegetable" since Brady has passed his useful prime. Initially I was disgusted by the association but as time has passed it is obvious that it is an accurate description of how she is being used. More so than Bin Laden parading children and mothers for his speeches pushing his campaign.

If I go camping, and leave my food out for every critter to smell, and don't take a blaster, don't expect me to come crying because I got mauled by a bear. Rules of the road.

I'm almost speechless on this comment. Where I understand the need to stay vigilant in many circumstances, this seems tantamount to blaming the victim for their injuries. That is pretty cold, in my opinion. Nobody deserves what happened to Congresswoman Giffords, and to say they should have been packing is to impune their freedom of choice. Don't get me wrong, here. I do not support any of the ban-o-mania going on, now. But please - regardless of the events leading up to her being shot, please don't suggest that she should have known better.

But shouldn't she? She had received threats, and she had a run in with this guy before. As a public servant, I don't place our congress people above others when it comes to security, but to have NO police presence at a public, open air venue? I don't think even our small town mayor does that.

That's not putting her at fault, but simply stating that you can't EVER be in condition "White" when you are a public figure in an uncontrolled venue.

Putting yourself on display is a great PR move for a politician, but leaves these kinds of situations possible.

The Giffords have flip-flopped on the gun issue in a huge way since the shooting. There are plenty of pictures of Gabby doing photo ops shooting AR's, including full auto rifles, prior to the shooting.

The shooting was tragic, and by all accounts she was liked on both sides of the aisle as being fair.

BUT....security is a personal responsibility, ALL THE TIME, EVERYWHERE!

I gotta agree that doing a public event with no security for any elected official is a big no-no. While not blaming her (obviously the shooter is where all the blame should be) she did put herself in a bad situation.
