LaserLyte Training Aid +1

All - For Christmas this year, my wife and I ordered from Midway a LaserLyte training system with the target (Product #: 116718, LaserLyte #: TLB-1), the trainer (Product #: 540808, LaserLyte #: LT-1) and 9mm insert (Product #: 510737, LaserLyte #: LT-9 ). I don't know if any of you have any experience with this system, but we have been using it non-stop with my Sig 1911, P226 and her Rugger 22/45.

It is a GREAT training aid for pistols. Same benefits as dry firing, only with target feedback. System will not help you for follow up shots, but definitely a great tool for trigger control, sight alignment/picture and IA drills. It has improved my wife's confidence and kept me from spending $$ getting her basics down. There were some iffy reviews about durability of the 9mm insert, but I have shot it about 200 times with no reliability issues. Laser shot is a bit off from my sights, but shot groups are still consistent.

I plan on trying it out with some of my long guns later in the month and will give you some feedback with how it works. My guess would be it will not be as great with the rifles as the pistols, but will let you know.

Figured I'd give a follow up to the initial review. I have not, as of yet, tried it with my long guns (had a fall a couple of days after first post. My non-shooting shoulder is gooned up, so no long guns for a while...or bows...damnit!!!). Only problem/complaint is that the trainer laser will not fit in my .357 w/3" barrel – this was a bit of a surprise, as it is advertised to work in barrels 3” long. Cannot justify paying for the .357 insert for a weapon I don't carry on a regular basis. Still, I am very pleased with this whole system as a training aid for pistols.

The target is 5" diameter, so IMHO, it is perfect for indoor use and snap shots (probably not the correct term) around doors/door jams in the house as well as turn and shoot drills. You still have to cock the weapon between shots, so follow up/double taps are not very realistic.

Between my wife and I, we have probably fired about 1000 shots through each laser, and are still on the original batteries. Same for the target. We do take the batteries out of the target when not in use, so that helps. No durability issues – even with the 9mm insert. The system has increased my wife's confidence a whole lot and allowed her to gain better trigger control. Keeps my skills up as well without having to brave the cold weather, so that is an added benefit.

I got two of the targets and the lights for 9mm and .45 as well. For me, the key feature is that you can learn to reflex fire the sidearms better and have feedback. I have barely used the actual targets. lol Hope you guys are enjoying it even a small amount as much as I am as this would mean you are having a ball! : )

Have found the true test comes when you go to the range and do some serious practice. And, any improvement can be directly attributed to the training and or training system.

So, make sure you comment to us after you have hit the range, please.

LR1955 - Sorry. I thought I was clear on that. With my wife, she showed measured improvement on the range with her confidence. For more info - Her targets when from having most of the shots on a man-sized target at 10m to having most of her shots on a 8 1/2x11” target. She probably will never be a competition shooter, but she has shown marked improvement.

For me, it kept me consistent without going to the range. Instead of needing a few shots to warm up (yes, I realize this is a mental thing), I was pretty much on when I got there.
