Time to join the NRA...

..if you aren't a member already. I have recently encouraged my wife and kids to join. I also am trying to encourage many of the folks I work with that are gun friendly. Nobody has the power to support gun owners than the NRA and I have decided some time back to put aside the petty issues I had with them to now support them fully. I'm even considering becoming a lifer now for $300.

Anyone who is a current NRA member can log in at the above and "gift" a LIFE membership for $300. What some have done on arfcom is collect $300 from those wanting to join and then "gift" it to them.

I'd be happy to do the same for anyone interested, as I'm sure other NRA members would.

My kids are all in their early and mid twenties, and students or middle management in small companies or small shops of big companies.

One son in law is a recently naturalized citizen, who takes his Second Amendment rights seriously. He and my oldest daughter are very serious about their rights, as someone who has faced bigotry due to his race. My youngest daughter wrote a paper in college about the rights in the 2nd Amendment and the laws regarding concealed carry in Washington State. Her professor gave her an A+, then told her that he had purchased his first handgun and gotten his concealed permit after reading her paper and listening to her verbal defense in class. Her husband comes from a family where no one owned a firearm, and was uncomfortable initially, but is now looking for his first short arm. (They've been married 9 months.) He is a great young man, just had no real firearms experience.

My two boys have attended Boomershoot and helped with the Precision Rifle Clinic. They both have considered military service, but with young families decided to finish school and then make that decision.

None of them had joined the NRA simply because of the financial concerns, but they all are very aware of the situation and the risks. All of them laughed when I told them what I had done. They understand the principle that what you get free is seldom as valuable as something you sacrifice for and they all ponied up.

Now to move on to the Second Amendment Foundation!

Interesting story:

As most of the kids have been financially strapped, I've been the firearms bank for all of them. All the boys own pistols, but none had financially been able to afford an AR, so I've been trying to collect for them.

The oldest sons wife called and asked if I would help her get an AR for him for Christmas. I knew that financially they were tight, and that he refuses to consider credit card debt, so I asked about that. She said that they had decided to use some of their tax refund to do that, but she had a strong feeling that she needed to buy it for Christmas and surprise.

She was able to figure out which Colt he wanted at Walmart, and purchased it the night of the Sandy Hook incident.

By Monday of the following week, she looked like a genius. I only wished I had told her to buy 20-30 mags too!

I don't know if it was woman's intuition, or God whispering in her ear, but we are sure glad she did!
