How many new NRA members have you convinced to join up?

Folks, now is the time to get involved. Please, and I cannot state this enough, please join the NRA. If you really want to join the GOA, SAF, JFPO or other group, please do that too, but join the NRA.

The reality is that the NRA is the 800# gorillia in the room and they command respect because they are the only gun rights group that can actually turn out enough votes to matter. They can turn out people like us to write letters, to make phone calls. No other gun rights organization has the political clout that the NRA has and no matter how much people complain about the flood of junk mail and solicitations for donations and other things they may complain about the NRA, the facts are the facts, the NRA is the only group that can stop the AWB because they are the only group with enough members to stop it.

I'm not saying don't join the GOA, they are an excellent (albeit shrill) group that voices our concerns too. Ditto the CCRKBA, JFPO and the SAF. I am a member of more than one of these groups and have been for many years. But we need to form a coherant body behind the big dog and that is, by far, the NRA. Get your friends to join the NRA too. I've had 4 or 5 of my cigar smoking buddies join in the past week. If each of us does this then the membership will swell from 4 Million to 5 Million to 7 Million or more. And folks, we need members!

Then, write letters, make phone calls, and write letters again. Send a letter a month to your 2 Senators and your Representative. From now until this proposed AWB is killed. And have your friends send letters too. Heck, write the letters for your friends if they won't or can't do it, have them sign it and them mail it for them. The cost a few extra stamps is nothing compared to the loss of your rights.

Now is the time. You are the one. Save your rights and pass them to your kids/grandkids. Without you we all lose.

One of the problems the NRA has with people joining is that a lot of gun owners are suspicious by nature. Suspicious of any large organization. Suspicious of big government using the NRA data base. It's hard to get past that. What I do is send the NRA money, look on their site and vote a "pretty much straight" NRA ticket, and use their site to e mail my elected officials

Why not join with an alias, then opt out of their "advertising" scheme?

I really believe that membership numbers will be looked at...not that I'm knocking giving them money. But if the pols see their membership numbers swelling dramatically, they may take notice.

I know some have just given up completely in trusting pols, but if we don't voice ourselves vociferously, then it is our own fault for complacency.

I talk to everyone who has an interest in firearms about the NRA and TSRA (Texas State Rifle Assc)
Do not forget your State organizations they work directly where YOU shoot and live.

If you are allowed where you live get your CHL (concealed Handgun Licence)
That is a very telling and important segment that is growing very large and needs to get MUCH larger
And as the head of your household it is YOUR responsibility to keep your people safe

TSRA is a great organization...and I'm a member there too. But they don't lobby US Congress at all. They leave that to NRA-ILA.

Are you saying that its fraud to convince our friends to join? If so then I say you are wrong. If we get our friends to sign up, and they do, then they are legitimate members. Many gun owners don't know the real benefits to joining, many are simply too lazy but believe in gun rights, many just need a simple nudge. They are legitimate new members.

No, of course not. I've recruited at least 10 folks over the years. I mean to member up one person, say your self, as if you were more than one person. The "Alias" idea. I should have clarified that...

My "alias" suggestion had nothing to do with bumping up numbers by having multiple memberships for one person. Some folks mentioned hesitation in giving their real info to NRA (spam emails, etc). I suggested using an alias to join...
