Prior to 12/13 I was thinning out my collection of rifles that collect dust. After the sandy Hook shooting I decided to sell off 3 FAL's, 2 Garand's and 1 NIB M1A. I was not using the rifles and was looking to clear space and get some more $$$ back into the fund.
So now I have 3 complete AR's (2 - 223, 1 - 7.62X39) and everything needed to build my Grendel except the kit. I have been waiting for a while for J&T to ship my kit, with no ETA yet. Do I cancel the kit and sell the receiver, RRA NM LPK plus ammo and reloading supplies? I picked up 600 rnds of 6.5 (400 Hornady 123 gr amax, 200 Wolf 120 MPT) plus dies and 1K(400 Nosler 123gr CC, 300 Hornady 123gr AMAX, 300 120 gr SMK) of bullets to reload. Should they ban AR's here in NY I will have to sell everything except the ammo and reloading supplies. This sucks but I don't want to have to do a fire sale to remain legal. I am wondering if I should pick up another 6.5 bolt gun and skip on the AR? My concern is if they pass legislation that bans and confiscates "Assault Weapons" I could be forced to do a fire sale.

1. Lobby to oppose the legislation
2. Don't panic
3. If passed, there will be a implementation period and there will likely be lawsuits filed
4. If forced, maybe take rifles in locked cases to relatives in a state where they are legal (wait for lawsuits to be resolved, or sell off)

You have just asked the $64,000 question. We are all concerned with what will happen in the next few months. If you live in a state like NY, CA, ILL. (yes I know its misspelled but it is descriptive) then your worries are justified. But if you don't go ahead with what you want and you will absolutely regret it. Honestly, I can't believe your even considerin giving up your guns! This is how they chip away at us. First they start with semi autos, then it will be bolt actions and pumps because they hold more than one round in the mag, so on and so forth. Don't let them have one more inch of your freedom! As the saying goes- When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns!

i am thinking that there might be a business opportunity here; what if people in Captk's shoes had a business in a free state that they could legally sell their guns to with the option to buy them back once the commies are swept out of office and sanity is restored?????

Hellcat does have a point too. if you can somehow resist, do so. Once we all do, it becomes a much harder propostion for the gun grabbers!!!
The problem is that confronting "the law" is contrary to the nature of law abiding people like us... so none of us are comfortable doing it.... but we must.
And resistance will come in many flavors; from sending guns to relatives or friends to burying them in pvc "obama tubes" , to lawsuits and legjslation, to outright violent confrontations in some exfreme cases.
I feel for you, but "confronting" the law will probably land you and Jail and confiscation of the weapons with no chance to get them back unless you have a very good lawyer Don't panic, wait it out and see what happens and start writing letters.
This might be a good idea for all the members on this site to draft a letter as a group! There is strength in numbers, I joined the NRA a few weeks back!

It is time to move to Rio Rancho, New Mexico. That will put you a couple of miles from a 1000 yd range( http://www.delnortegunclub.com/) and you won't even realize you are not living in LI any more( 70% of the population is from NY). Lots of retired cops and firemen. No beaches but plenty of mountains....no hurricanes but down here the wind blows every day.

Cool idea, but I am having a hard time coming up with a way this would work logistically. I live in Texas, which (I hope) would be one of the last places to have gun control measures, so I would like to help. I am only a thousand-aire though so I can't buy or give money for much. That makes it an awefully big leap of faith, doesn't it? Is someone on here licensed to give legal counsel in NY & TX; that could speak of possible "contractual" agreements to protect each party to make this feasible?

That sounds like the ticket, from what I understand you have miles of mountain biking also!
I still have 3 safes pretty full of rifles, pistols and shotguns, mostly rifles. The rifles I sold were going to go before Sandy Hook happened. I would love to leave but the kids are here and the wife doesn't want to go (she can stay). I just want to have a plan for the worst case. I will continue to wait on my J&T kit for now and hope all of this calms down. Worst case I sell the AR's and my lat M1A or move them to a place where they are legal.
Leaving NY sure does sound good, NM sounds great, I would love to be able to hunt without having to drive 3 hours. After working close to 20 years in Manhattan I'm ready for a change of scenery and a lot less humanity around me.

Michael, the guns would only be sold on paper. the owners would take a simbolic dollar for them. the understanding is a contract that states that they can buy them back when they relocate or when the commies are all back in their cages ( whichever comes first) for the dollar plus a reasonable storage fee.... the modest profit angle.

Yeah, I got all that part. I was wondering what would happen if the storage place was broken into and the guns stolen or damaged in fire or whatever else may happen. Insurance would *compensate* you for the loss, but that is not the same as having them back in your hand. I guess you could use a trigger lock or put them in a sealed contained or whatever. Again, I like the concept but I can't come up with logistics to make it work. Nonetheless, I think we are discussing a moot point anyways. And, as far as moot points go, I think I'll jump back over to the PVC burial thread  .

This is sad. People have to go to these lengths over stupid firearms "semiautomatic" that have been around for over 100 years. Look how pathetic the government is making people behave, like were transporting plutonium. I use to transport a couple thousand pounds of dynamite and anfo through town when we were blasting rock on logging roads.I was only 19 years old. All we did was meet the seller at the bunker, pay him, and put some placards on our pickup and went to work. We use to bring our rifles and shot guns to grade school and leave them in the principles office till after school to go hunting. In high school we would sharpen and compare our hunting knives in the school cafeteria during lunch. At 16 years of age we had keggers on the week ends and the police just wanted to make sure the garbage would be picked up. Then the progressives tell us that gun's are the problem and not the progressive re-engineering that has screwed everything up. I wish everyone could have seen what freedom was really like to live in. This is defiantly not a free society. This sh@# really pisses me off.

Deer hunter I bet we could chew the fat about a lot of things that have gone wrong in this country and it is nice to know there is like minded men. I feel sorry for the younger people, especially my kid's that have no idea what a great country this was and how true freedom felt. I don't want to sound negative and the fight sure as hell isn't over but the zombie like mind set or fear is taking over. A lot of young people only have other repressive governments to compare to the freedom we have in this country and that unfortunately isn't what I compare freedom to. I have been fortunate to live in Montana where I truly grew up free. I was expected to make it or fail on my own accord with outcry baby excuses. Now I guess were all victims and need to be taken care of like zoo animals by our authoritarian educated elite. It makes me want to puke. I need to go for a hike in the mountains for awhile.
No doubt. Im from FL originally but ive lived Ga last 20 years. In the South you do have some degradation of communities and morals as well but we Southernors are a proud people. Most of us dont want the Govt (local, state or federal) messing with us. We are not the dumb rednecks that Obama, Bob Beckel and Pick your , choice of talking heads at MSNBC think. I
played football back when they kept score and we were taught to be winners, i was a power lifter, played baseball and threw the shot put and discus. I was taught to love my country and I did (do). I to kept my shotgun in the back of my Subaru Brat which I took huntimg every week after school and practice of course. We carried Buck knives as long as my arm and we played mumbley peg at recess. All these things we did and the worst thing that ever happened was a bloody nose or a fat lip.
