Grendel Billet Build

Here it is so far.. Been waiting months for the darn Mega side charging uppers to become avaliable again. Its going to be primarily a hunting rifle that i take from time to time to the range. Just gonna upgrade the trigger, replace the buffer tube with a PWS billet enhanced one, get some flip up sights and a nice optic on a larue mount. I'm leaning towards a votex viper, but well see. I also got a phantom flash hider coming for it and some more larue index clips for the top rail.

Now just ditch the irons, and mount a hunting scope that will fit your needs. I have been evaluating some of the Vortex Vipers and Viper PST's, and I love them so far. They track through extreme temp shifts, elevations, and have great glass and features. The 2.5-10x44 PST or HS will cover most of your hunting needs within the effective range of your carbine, and a 1-4x will cover your closer range hunting from 5-100yds (pigs to deer in the forest).

I've got one of the Vortex Vipers in 6.5-20, 30mm tube side focus and I'm pretty impressed with it. I kinda like that forened, slick looking rifle. Welcome

I continue to vacillate over the need for back up iron sights or not. On the one hand, they could prove useful if the scope goes down. However, I have only had one scope ever die on me, and that was because it was a cheap scope mounted on a 300 Win mag, so I feel like I deserved that failure. Since going to the Leupold Mark 4's and Redfield 2-7 for my close range Grendel, I haven't had any problems.

I guess my feeling is that I could prepare for all sorts of contingencies, and even wear a personal flotation device in case I fall in deep water, and carry a fire extinguisher in case of personal spontaneous combustion. But those are pretty far fetched...as is the probability of my scope failing.

But I don't have any issue with other people buying back up iron sights. Some of the back up irons are quite good sighting systems, and would even be useful as a primary sighting system. The primary benefit of those would be that because they fold up and would therefore be less likely to snag on things, they could be folded out of the way for a parachute jump, or usef for storage in a tight space, then deployed when needed.

Mighty fine looking rifle you built...I like the quality of components and thought you put into it.
