Great points LR. In particular, I like what you said about the NRA and couldn't agree with you more. I would like to see them take a proactive approach during this time and come to the table with some legitimate solutions instead of just focusing on shooting everything down. Don't get me wrong, go after all the ban BS, but also have something to propose that won't take down the constitution.

There are 100 MILLION people who own 300 MILLION guns in this country. There are BILLIONS of rounds in private hands as well. And that number is growing by leaps and bounds every day.
It is a logistical impossibility to overcome those numbers. If 1 gun was confiscated every minute (every hour, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week) it would take 208,333 days to do it. That is 570 years.
Yes, there is a very bumpy road ahead - no question. But do not lose faith.

After the individual mandate in the AHCA has passed scrutiny of the SCOTUS, I would not rule out the imposition of insurance requirements to individual gun owners. I have seen it suggested. I think gun control will come from both the insurance industry, as well as the private equity firms that are setting themselves up to profit from and ultimately facilitate gun regulation via consolidation of manufacturers. No one effectively regulates private equity firms.

I'm a recent Life NRA member...now I'm joining Gun Owners of America as a Life member. I think they are stronger on 2A in the original intent than the NRA, and I haven't been receiving spam from them on some stupid wine club, etc.
GOA leadership went on CNN and battled with Piers Morgan (who should just go back to UK if he doesn't like our Constitution).

Then, three critical things will happen before you will hand your guns over. First, you will be ordered to register them. Then it is only a matter time. After being promised that if you register them, you will be able to keep them, the communists will find a way to tax you per gun. It won't be called a tax because they have already lost that one in court. However, you will be forced to pay a fee every year per gun like the guys do who have Class III licenses. This tax will get bigger each year until you can't afford it anymore and turn your guns in. For those who can pay the tax, eventually the guns will be outright banned and then you can either turn them in or have a LEA enter your house with probable cause and confiscate them. That is how it will go. The military won't have to get involved. Oh yes, you won't be allowed to sell them or give them away, either.

Conventional wisdom that I to think is correct. I never thought it was a legitimate question for the same reasons you state. But then again weve never had Communists governing our country. LR1955 Agreed all around. I don't hold Walmart (who didn't actually stop selling anything) to the same standard as an outfit like CTD. CTD blew smoke up our butts about how pro 2nd Amendment they were and Walmart never said jack. WM simply sells everything they think can sell and make an overall profit on. WM wan't asking scalper prices or doing any histrionics.
Troops: Yep, I have faith in most of them.
NFA weapons: It's only a one time $200 registration tax, not annual. Don't anyone remind them though! Only dealers pay actual licensing fees, and those are for the privilege of conducting multiple transfers while free of tax.
NRA: Definitely!!!!!
NRA spam: Call them and complain. I'm a life member (GOA too) also. I forget who I spoke with, but if you talk to the right department then all the spam stops. I called them up years ago and threatened to quit if they kept pestering me. They said no problem, then the guy asked if I'd like to still recieve the "Rifleman" magazine or should he cancel that too. I laughed and said they could send me just that and things would be fine. The magazine is all anyone needs anyway, it contains our ballot. Anywhoo, now I'm spam free. When I want to donate I just kick in in other ways.

Anyone heard of a domestic security force in Obamacare? See "Patient Protection Affordable Care Act" page 1312. Section 5210. No posse comitatus issue there.

Well being retired from the military for almost 20 years doesnt give me the mind set of what the people currently serving think but I believe they will follow a lawful order. The key there being a lawful order, I dont think this type action in country is one.
Some laws would have to be changed and some others passed to get it to a lawful order status. By that time the Bill of Rights is really just toilet paper so the rest doesnt matter.

Honestly I didn't think much of this issue until I read that section of the law today. The potential for an administration to manipulate that law scares me.
Most Americans will stand up and say a domestic security force under control of the president will never happen. While I'm not a lawyer I do believe that law opens the door for said force to be established.

Excellent thread folks, been following for quite a while now, but nothing to add but this:
"...endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights..." It is well defined and sternly warned by our Founders that our form of government is fit only for a moral people. "We the People" have steadily and increasingly chosen to depart from that Creator, and have chosen rather to gorge on the most ungodly of appetites; such as would cause so many of our fore fathers to blush with shame and anger, that their children so happily tread on their sacrifices and blood.
It is also well defined by The Almighty that our departure from his demands absolutely shall result in the departure of our freedoms and the despising of those "inalienable rights" by our leaders and our enemies.
Yup, I'm 100% NRA, I send them $, I preach the 2A to all that will and will not hear, I've taught my kids, their friends, and my church teens to dig guns. But we cannot save our freedoms while we thumb our noses at God. The only hope of delaying, reversing, or preventing the destruction of any of our freedoms is to return to God in humility and in deed.
