feetpiece Wrote:I read that as well but in the press conference with the chief medical examiner who was the complete Hollywood stereotype weirdo, he stated the the majority of wounds were inflicted by a rifle. So was the Bushy in the car as has been reported? Or was there another weapon aside from the glock and the sig?
There was also another guy arrested in the woods behind the school in the original report. They also had been saying that the mother taught at the school, now the school is saying she didn't teach there. They also originally said the father had been killed, then the mother, then the mother and the father, until the father pulled up to his house. First it was two handguns that were used, including a Glock 10mm and a Sig Sauer 9mm, now it's a Bushmaster AR15 and a shotgun was left in the car.
Hopefully they will just say the whole thing was a big hoax, and it never happened, but the funerals kinda make it doubtful that will happen. Still, nobody is discussing the fact that Obama and Congress quietly cut school safety funding that started in the Bush Administration, and the NRA and guns are being blamed, while the story about the CCW holder stopping the would-be mass slaying in the Oregon mall is being buried.
Would we expect anything else from the Pravda disinformation old media garbage machine?

Gentlemen,
This topic is a little closer to me than I feel comfortable with. On February 2, 1996, my town was affected by a school shooting. The shooter dressed in a black cowboy duster, hid a .357, a .25 automatic, and a .30-30 and walked into a junior high. He first shot and killed Manuel Vela, then Arnold Fritz, then Natalie Hintz, (who survived) before fatally shooting his teacher Leona Caires. Jon Lane, a PE teacher at the school, ran to the class after hearing gun shots, and entered the room, voluteering to act as a hostage so that the shooter could exit. When the shooter got close enough, Jon Lane grabbed the rifle and subdued the student, holding him for police. Jon Lane is now and forever a hero to me.
Wikipedia has a reasonably accurate version of the story here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frontier_Mi...l_shooting
I tell you all this because the first student killed, Manuel Vela, was my next door neighbor. His younger brother played with my kids every day, and we saw Manuel frequently in the yard, playing with his brother and the other kids.
I know how this kind of a tragedy affects people, I've seen it daily for almost 20 years now. I know kids in the class, I know Natalie Hintz, and my son in law to be was in the next classroom. One of his best friends was in that classroom with the shooter and I know that young man as well.
My town did a lot of soul searching as we tried to find a way to make students safe without making every school into a prison. What we finally realized is that you CAN'T make everyone safe WITHOUT putting them in prison, and even then, if someone is determined to do them harm, and willing to die in the process, they will succeed.
There is no real answer to this problem.
Norwegian citizens don't have the same gun laws we do, and guns are much more tightly controlled, and yet a shooter was able to kill 77 people there last year.
The Jews in the ghetto in Warsaw supposedly had NO access to guns, yet managed to fight off a vastly superior NAZI force for almost a month.
In our times, the truth is that guns are machines, and fairly simple ones, and can be manufactured and acquired easily, even under the most difficult of circumstances. Unless you were to outlaw EVERY gun, and then act as the Gestapo or the KGB did, you simply cannot BEGIN to stop people with evil intent from obtaining them. All you do is make it difficult for law abiding citizens.
So we need turn this discussion completely around, we need to make sure that people understand that we must find and treat those people who have evil intent. These people are not generally criminal UNTIL they crack and act out in a spasm of rage. We have to identify and help treat them early, in whatever manner we can find that works. Right now, we do a lousy job.
This is NOT an argument about gun control, its an argument about mental health. And we have to go on the offensive and find a way to make everyone understand that.
You seek escape from pain. We seek the achievement of happiness. You exist for the sake of avoiding punishment. We exist for the sake of earning rewards. Threats will not make us function; fear is not our incentive. It is not death that we wish to avoid, but life that we wish to live. - John Galt

There has been much mis-information in the reporting. I believe the Sig Sauer was the rifle used in the school (SIG 556), with the sole exception of his own terminating shot with the Glock as police were arriving at the school. I don't believe the medical examiner would be getting confused between a rifle and a handgun.
However, I've also read that he shot his mom with a .22LR...so I wonder if the Sig Sauer was actually the SIG522...or maybe the media just doesn't know the difference between a .22LR and .223

Here's one simple-cost effective solution to these school shootings, re-hire for most teaching positions, -hire ex-military people that have a CCW permit, and some teacher training . = No more troubles, homework gets done on time-tardiness is done-kids get smarter, maybe even thinner!! Everyone is safe-moms & dads are at ease. The nation can rest assured young bobby & suzie are fine at school.
The second one is-as many have stated-----lose the drugs these troubled individuals are on--keep them in a facility, if they are deemed -unstable-don't hide them at home! BE A RESPONSIBLE PARENT !!! , Plus don't introduce them to guns. Do more research on their issues.
I'll sign any petition that's out there.
Remember, gang-,,guns made America strong. Plus we beat up on How many countries per century with said guns???? The gov. is all for that type of murder!? Mine will never ever, leave my side. No way.

Sneaky one as a veteran I love your idea. However, I'd like to see it expanded to: all principals and vice principals be trained to carry and issued a sidearm, all teachers be issued a lock box and given the option to bring a side arm into the classroom to be kept locked in their desk.
The holsters and lock boxes should be open to debate among the state. I'd suggest issued holster for the principal that do NOT allow a quick draw and must first be unsecured to be drawn and I'd suggest a lock box that would require a key and simple spring loaded, 5 button touch pad. I would also suggest any negligence resulting in a student acquiring the firearm or a negligent discharge result in immediate termination, a standard set to insure help insure principals and teachers do not get lax in their gun control.
Our schools will no longer be filled with helpless victims. These monsters will finally be meet with lead.

I just read that Gov Perry is allowing teachers to carry sidearms in Texas. Can it be? A little sanity in a freaking insane world.

Been talking about this a lot amongst my friends. One pointed out that most teachers tend to be on the libtard side and are anti-gunners.
Personally, I believe each school should hire an armed security guard for the front office, implement the latest in security systems, and allow whatever teachers that have CHL (and maybe some additional training specific to carrying in school setting) to carry in school (i.e. eliminate the "gun free zones")

Awesome-alternative ,( or in conjunction with, my idea ) Cory!! Awesome! Let's do this! Let's roll on this America! Keep sending a version of this to your elected in state- politicians. MOVE! GO!!!!!GO!!!!! GO!!!!
Time to send a version of these ideas, and more like them to the Pres. ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO!!!!!! Also--let's extend a tax break to retail-stores-malls etc. that would get these items-people in place.- Anywhere a threat could arise-as a mass shooting, from a troubled person threat. I would kindly advise also--anyone that has the means to,, get a carry permit asap. Not only because of recent troubles--but ---YOU-- could be the determining factor in a situation-to help save a life or 2., or 27...
Just trying to help out here, we need all the quality ideas we can send out.. can't send anger

Just one question and it will piss some people off but its a valid question. Are you sure they want an answer to the violence?
We have local CCW & Force-on-Force instruction companies booked indefinitely as a result, but Utah Teachers are already able to carry with Utah CFP on school grounds.

Huh I don't recall hearing of one of these monsters attacking a Utah classroom. Coincidence? I never have believed in those.

I fully agree with the idea.
While you will never convince me any amount of money is to much for the protection of our children, we do have to realize there is only so much in monetary funds to go around. The latest in security systems can get rather expensive. Could you foresee the security system getting so complicated and overbearing that it turns our schools into prisons.
A security guard in the front office will certainly make our schools safer. However, let me please ask you this, How difficult is it to plan an attack on a compound where the majority of the inhabitants are disarmed and you know where armed personnel are located? How much more difficult would it be to plan an attack on the same compound where a large number of inhabitants are armed and you have no way of knowing which ones are?
The unknown is a powerful deterrent.

Deer H. I'm sure they don't. Let's make it happen on our terms- Push for armed teachers!-Lock boxes. So what if the kids feel like its russia, at school- I felt the same as a student back in the late 70's= drugs were an issue then-I never went that route, but a many kids were tossed out of school for good, because of it-violence too..

Just so you know out is legal to carry in a gun free school zone as long as you get permission from the principle our higher staff prior to carrying on the premises. (Texas)
That is the reason it is legal for those teachers in Wichita falls, TX to carry.

On a side note the reason I know this is because I am working on a project, that would have required me to be at some of these schools late at night in some rather nefarious locations. And did some research on what could be done legally and what my employer would allow.
