When I bought my first 16" for defense, The accuracy was plenty good for my purposes. Have shot the heck out of it with about 1.25 - 1.50 moa. Then I needed a distance gun for longer shots with the kids I work with, and went back to Model 1 sales for a 24" bull barrel. I have not shot it yet because I have read some less than flattering things about the barrel. Should have done my research.
I have considered another upper, but I would need to sell the Model 1 Sales first - as new. Or I can rebuild with a better barrel. Or, I can just shoot the darn thing.
What does the ignorant do?
the proof is down range. I know a couple of guys that love their Model1 uppers. They hand load their ammo so they've tailored their rounds to what they gun likes and have shot some impressive groups out of it.

just shoot it and see if what it does for you it will probably go under a minute
I had Paul at Model 1 build an 18" upper and have nothing but good results. Have only shot 123 gr hornady so far but very satisfactory results at 100 yards - 1.5", which is more than adequate for deer, dogs and hogs. Initially had feeding issues but these were due to me not shooting the gun with enough oil on the carrier and bolt. After that absolutely no issues. Using C products and ASC mags. Only a couple of hundred rounds thru it so far and happy with it. I plan on shooting ammo by Precision arms and my hand loads, which I'm positive will yield much tighter groups.
If I were to be a strictly long range target gun shooter then I might feel differently, but for my needs I couldn't be more satisfied.
You guys have put my mind at ease. Need to hear from folks that have used the upper. And, I thank you. Any barrel break needed with a SS barrel?
Harvest, you need to get rid of that barrel, post haste! I'll be happy to take it off your hands and pass on to you whatever recycling monies it returns.
But seriously, clean it after you shoot it. No need for rigorous break in routine.
Since you don't know if anything is wrong with it, you can either sell it or shoot it and see what happens. M1Sales is clearly targeted to the economy builder marker, so whatever accuracy you get is what you get.
I expect a Grendel barrel to hover closely around 1 MOA, which my 16" AA Tactical does consistently, no matter what I feed it. It does very well with the 123gr AMAX, 123gr Scenar factory load from Precision, as well as factory AA 90gr TNT. All my hand loads have grouped around 1 MOA, some under, some slightly over.
If you truly need sub-MOA performance, then it will cost you a cut-rifled or lapped match barrel. You will be tickled with one of these barrels, and I feel it's worth the satisfaction when a kid puts 3-5 rounds through the same hole or all touching. That is a confidence builder that feels great, no matter how old you are.

I got two .223 uppers from m1 like 15 years ago, and they were/are absolutely superlative! Not only did they shoot well...they absolutely loved the crap wolf ammo more than match ammo!! When I found that part out....I moaned love songs to them until my wife caught me doing.
I did recently get a 6.5 upper from m1 and have not yet fired it. I also got an Alexander Arms upper on the way...and will do a compare and contrast thread if you would like...but i have high hopes for m1 based on past experience.
