1084 yard video with grendel
#1
Video at 1084. This was cold bore, 6 rounds fired, 4 impacts, 8900 DA, 5 degree down angle. Range is done with PLRF through Nomad with FFS and pulled from cabled kestral. Plate is 12" in diameter and 1.5" thick, so it does not move at all with the little bullets, it probably weighs 80 or 90 pounds. This is with 108 scenars and 8208 at 2780ish and a brand new barrel combo that I put together last sunday.

Nightforce 5.5-22 MLR with 10moa base (I only have 15 mils of up travel), LAR side charger, 20" broughton, 9 twist, chambered 6.5 grendel by myself, short lead setup for the 108 scenars, 2780fps, Geissele trigger, Phoenix Custom Rifles muzzle brake and an A2 buttstock. This is with the JP enterprises silent captured spring and their adjustable gas block. The grendel does need the 5% heavier spring in the captured spring.

That is a small target to be shooting at 1084yds. Awesome video sir! I'll embed it for you:

Excuse the ignorance but can you explain what "short lead setup for 108 scenarios" mean?

Most of the grendel reamers are set for the 123 or the hunting bullet ogives, which means that the 108 has a longer jump to the rifling. This reamer sets the jump to .020 with a 2.295 coal, which also puts the base of the bullet at the shoulder instead of down in the powder column. This barrel has never shot a bad group, yet. Sub 1/2 moa at 300 yards and this target in the video is a hair over 1 moa and the misses were on me. Shot broke at bullet impact, which is the shooters fault.

Once I can get the 1450 video downloaded, I will link it. I think 1 hit out of 5 or 6.

I note your scope is a Nightforce 5.5-22 MLR. At what power were you shooting at? And what do you recommend for that range?

There is only one Grendel reamer standard, and it has a compound throat angle, that is meant to handle a wide range of bullets. The .264 LBC reamers aren't standardized, so there is no industry pattern for that reamer, but my understanding is that it was first built around the 123gr SMK, then the 123gr AMAX.

When I have a custom barrel built for me, I have at least one bullet in mind that I think I know I'll be shooting, and the smith cuts the chamber based on that, which is what Azprc did here, with great results demonstrated on-target from a 20" pipe at over 1k, which is impressive for the Grendel.

The nose profile/ogive of the 108 Scenar is more of a VLD-type pill, which increases its BC for its weight, making it a great bullet for a case such as the Grendel, where powder capacity is limited. 8900 density altitude helps out a lot, compared to sea level, since there isn't much atmospheric pressure to resist bullet flight up there.

What mags did you use to get 2.295" COAL? I plan on using the PRI's.

22 Power. I like the USO's mostly but I do run a couple NF and S&B's. Alot of guys run these kind of distances with 10x scopes, but I prefer to be able to dial mine back if mirage is too bad or run it up if I can. The only downfall of the NF is the second focal plane. Mine NF has 28 mils of adjustment and 15 of them left for up travel. That will get me to 1310 without using holdovers, more than enough for a reasonable engagement distance of the grendel.

I ran your dope using a DA of 21.5" of mercury for 8900ft ASL, 2780fps mv, using the G7 BC value provided by Lapua of .231, since we're beyond 800yds, and into the 1k+ territory. You can also download Lapua's Quick Target Unlimited with the doppler radar data for the Scenars if you want exact predictions of bullet impact at these distances. Here's the drop baed on Litz's program on Berger's site, which I like:

Code:
Range Velocity Energy Trajectory TOF Drift (yards) (fps) (ft-lb) (MILS) (sec) (MILS) 0 2780 1853 0.00 0.0000 0.00 100 2636 1666 -0.00 0.1108 -0.14 200 2496 1493 -0.32 0.2278 -0.29 300 2360 1335 -0.94 0.3514 -0.45 400 2228 1191 -1.69 0.4822 -0.62 500 2101 1058 -2.53 0.6208 -0.80 600 1978 938 -3.45 0.7680 -0.98 700 1858 828 -4.46 0.9245 -1.18 800 1743 728 -5.57 1.0911 -1.39 900 1630 637 -6.79 1.2691 -1.62 1000 1521 555 -8.12 1.4596 -1.86 1100 1415 480 -9.60 1.6641 -2.12 1200 1313 414 -11.23 1.8842 -2.40 1300 1216 355 -13.04 2.1217 -2.71 1400 1126 304 -15.06 2.3785 -3.03

If you run it at sea level, it is this:

Code:
Range Velocity Energy Trajectory TOF Drift (yards) (fps) (ft-lb) (MILS) (sec) (MILS) 0 2780 1853 0.00 0.0000 0.00 100 2580 1597 -0.00 0.1120 -0.20 200 2389 1369 -0.35 0.2328 -0.42 300 2206 1167 -1.03 0.3635 -0.65 400 2031 989 -1.87 0.5052 -0.90 500 1864 833 -2.84 0.6594 -1.17 600 1703 696 -3.96 0.8277 -1.47 700 1550 576 -5.23 1.0124 -1.80 800 1402 471 -6.69 1.2159 -2.16 900 1262 382 -8.37 1.4415 -2.56 1000 1133 308 -10.32 1.6926 -3.00 1100 1050 264 -12.61 1.9693 -3.48 1200 1004 242 -15.24 2.2621 -3.94 1300 966 224 -18.20 2.5672 -4.38 1400 932 208 -21.48 2.8839 -4.80

Big difference for the sea huggers, vs. the highlanders. Still an amazing load though. I'm going to have to try them in my 16", as I get some pretty high speeds from my pipe. I'm wondering what I can do with moly, a 2.270+" COAL, and maybe CFE from PRI mags.

be interested to see results lr 52. Ive been waiting to pull trigger on 8202 or CFE to go with either 108scenars or 107smk's. probably start out with 8202 and see hoe it does.

4500 ASL, did not note baro. Kestral run it at 8900 DA.

29.7 grains of 8208. I could not get any consistent velocity from the cfe. Although others have had different results. I was getting Es of 45fps.

Where I shoot, a .308 behaves like a .260 Rem at sea level. The air density is really thin, but winds are often crazy. The last PCPRC match I was at had 40 mph winds on the meter.
