Finished!!!!!

For the past four months, I've been piecing together my first grendel. I actually wanted to mimick one of the ARs i saw on here.

This is my first build......

Parts list.

Spikes spider lower/lower parts kit
Timney 3lb SS (I prefer ss)
Magpul MOE Tigger guard
Extended take down pins
VLTOR MP-1 Bipod
Magpul PRS stock with heavy buffer
AA mag

Vltor MUR1A Upper w/ Forward assist
Satern 18'' 1/8.57 Match/fluted grendel barrel with matching bolt
Colt M16 Match Bolt Carrier (on order)
Bravo Company Gunfighter XL charging handle
Lancer 15in carbon fiber FF handguard with 2in rails (took 2 months to get)
Topped with a 6-24x50 Nikon Monarch w/ sunshade
Customized Satern Heli-Port muzzle break.
I didnt like that the heliport OD was offset (larger) than he OD of the barrel. I had heliport CNC tapered down to Barrel OD for smooth transition.

rings are cheapos right now. REdfield high mounts. I have a set of risers coming in, and will most likely switch the rings out to a Larue later down the line. Right now..ive sunk too much $$ into this one to justify it. They will do.

I said the same thing "I've sunk too much $$ into this one" but I still keep upgrading. I've upgraded enough that now I have a second upper. That's the fun of the AR. Go for the Larue Mts. you won't regret it.

To embed pictures, you have to use Imageshack or Photobucket, or one of the other hosting services, (those two are free), upload the picture there, then use the link process they specify to create a link.

Chuy, sweet build. I love those carbon fiber fore ends, have one on my 16" .223. Incredibly light and stable. I'm considering that bipod, are the detents to lock into each position solid?

yeah, they are pretty solid. Im please with the bipod so far, still havent shot it though. I am having feed issues with the bolt. It is super tight in the BC. So much that it doesnt feed smoothly. i dont understand why... the bolt is matched to the barrel.

Usually a tight bolt doesn't affect feeding issues. Is it tight without the rings on it? How much lube are you using?

Feed issues are almost always either magazine issues or improper ammunition issues.

+1 on bwaites' assessment that it may be the magazine. I personally haven't gotten a magazine yet that I did not have to adjust the feed lips including anything made by ASC for Midway. There should be LOTS of previous posts about this topic.

Saiga...actually...your gun was the one i copied. lol. i had an image of what i wanted, then i saw yours and it made up my mind for me. I kept your ar on my phone for reference, so everytime i saw a part at the store that i wanted, it helped remind me what my goal was..

As for my bolt, i did some digging. apparently the tightness is from the rings being new. There is no easing the bolt forward. With or without a magazine. It actually binds with a mag. Wont go all the way forward, even with a full pull. I'm hoping after some lube and some shooting, it will loosen up a bit. I may need to re-grease too.

Oh my!! Took her out today and I'm all giggles. This thing is a true tack driver!!! It will shoot better than i can. Very impressive.

Holy crap!!!

Yesterday i decided to place an order for a SPR1.5 around 12:50pm. I was flabbergasted to get the text from my wife asking me what this package i got in the mail this morning!!

As if that wasn't enough, i open the package and saw this.

Can't say enough about the quality and from what i see as outstanding customer service.
